What is polyester monofilament?
Polyester monofilament is made from PET chips. The chips are spun by melt method, then cooled and shaped in a bath, and finally drawn and thermoformed to get monofilament.
Polyester monofilament is characterized by high strength, good toughness, dimensional stability, high temperature and low-temperature resistance, and chemical stability to acids and weak alkalis at room temperature. So it is used to weave paper mesh and wind into spiral zippers with good quality and long service life. Polyester monofilaments can be widely used in paper-making meshes, industrial filter nets, conveyor belts, bracket lines, mesh tubes, and other industries. In addition, due to its excellent water resistance, weather resistance, and wear resistance, polyester monofilament is also widely used in the water industry.

PET monofilament is generally used with PA nylon wire to build horizontal and vertical networks to improve the strength and deformation resistance of the net. The performance of PET monofilament is mainly affected by the performance of the PET material itself, processing conditions, and other factors. To create high-end applications of netting wire, PET needs to be modified, or add relevant additives in the processing.
Paper-making meshes are divided into dry and wet meshes. In high temperature and high humidity conditions, the esterification reaction of polyester materials is prone to reverse. Once the reverse reaction begins, it will speed up with time. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and other properties of the PET monofilament will drop sharply, which is a block in the application of the paper-making industry.
How to improve the performance of polyester monofilament?
By adding anti-hydrolysis powder or masterbatch, the mechanical properties of PET monofilament can be maintained in high temperature and high humidity conditions. Without the addition of anti-hydrolysis agent, the filament’s mechanical properties loss after 5 days is very large. This is because the anti-hydrolysis agent blocks the PET reverse esterification reaction under high temperature and high humidity conditions and reduces the molecular chain breakage, thus ensuring the mechanical properties of PET filament.
Anti-hydrolysis powder can be divided into monomer type and polymeric type. The monomer-type anti-hydrolysis powder has a low melting point. Its mixing process with PET is challenging to operate. Polymeric anti-hydrolysis agent has a higher melting point and is easier to handle in the adding process. Its anti-hydrolysis effect is better than the monomeric one.
