Service case | replace the toxic curing agent in fabric printing industry with eco-friendly crosslinking agent

A clothing customer’s orders are mainly from the European Union. The EU has been strict in chemical control. Many batches of clothing exported by the customer were found containing chemical substances banned by the EU. The loss of direct goods and the sharp decline in subsequent orders have caused huge losses to the customer.

After inspection results and research and investigation, it was found that the chemical substances found were aziridin-based compounds, mainly from fabric printing glue. The main component of the fabric printing glue is acrylic copolymer or polyurethane copolymer.

In the specific printing and dyeing process, the corresponding curing agent needs to be added to promote the glue to solidify and adhere to the cloth. Aziridine is a common curing agent, but the substance is highly toxic and carcinogenic. As early as 2011, the European Union clearly stipulated in the REACH Hazardous Substances Technical Regulations that the use of aziridine based chemical substances in textiles is prohibited.

After comparison and verification, the customer decided to replace the aziridine with the environmentally friendly crosslinking agent HyMax®CA, for example, adding 5% HyMax®CA-01 to the acrylic glue. After curing, it was detected that there was no EU banned chemical residue, and The quality of printing has also been further improved. This solution not only allows customers to confidently respond to EU environmental regulations, but also restore many orders.

HyMax®CA is a new type of polycarbodiimide water-based crosslinking agent. It has a series of advantages such as non-toxic, environmental protection and long pot life. It is used in the printing and dyeing industry. It not only helps many users solve the problems of environmental protection regulations, but also improves printing. Water resistance, abrasion resistance and adhesion to the fabric.
